Modern police of a modern city
The task of the Budapest Police Headquarters is to ensure the safety of several
millions living or working in, or travelling to or through Budapest, and to prevent
and eliminate crimes in the capital.
Tranquillity in a bustling city
The primary objective of the organization established in 1881 as “Budapest Royal
Hungarian State Police” is to meet both the public safety requirements of the
citizens and the requirements of the profession. 7.500 police officers of the
twenty-two district police stations and one water police station seek to ensure
safety to the inhabitants of the capital and to guests visiting the city.
Guarding eyes
The single operations control system (in operation since 1 June 2009) is the
first and most important element of a public safety programme, fundamental principles
of which are swiftness and effectiveness. The Budapest Police Headquarters established
this centre at the Police Administration Centre with several dozens of PC workstations
and with large screen displays, where one communication is coordinated by one
operations control officer is, who – independently of districts or criminal regions
– is always able to deploy available patrols to the scene. Another advantage of
the system is that with the help of it, the officer can follow up the measures
taken, by watching the CCTV footage of nearly all cameras installed in the capital.
Together for each other
The core element of professional success of the Budapest Police Headquarters
is the cooperation with citizens, which is necessary to make Budapest a more liveable
and safe living and working area and a beloved tourist destination.
